SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES, the movie
Oct 31, 2012

Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF) is thrilled to announce the official public release of SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES: A NATION BETRAYED, the movie just in time for the holidays this year.  This accomplishment would not have been possible without the kind and generous support of all those who have taken part.  Your support combined with a generous gift from Victoria McCullough of The Triumph Project is making it possible for SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES, the movie, to open in theaters over the holidays through a traditional Oscar roll out.

We are extremely proud to honor the horses and give them the powerful voice they deserve. It takes a tremendous amount of time and resources to produce a documentary film of this nature and do it well.  The magnitude of expertise and passion reflected through this collaborative body of work delivers an irrefutable testament of facts; the true facts, many of which are not readily available to the public.  Rich in compelling and beautiful cinematic qualities;  this resource will stand the test of time and serve as important educational resource for generations to come.

We invite you to join in as we nurture a compassionate and deep rooted connection to the horse nation. Please also join us in celebrating this monumental milestone. It's history in the making for our horses; an opportunity to connect on their behalf and bring mass attention to the issues that impact them and the world that we share.

For any documentary film, a theatrical release is a long shot, even when coming off an international award winning festival tour like SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES has accomplished... Let alone an Oscar roll out in NYC and LA!  "We are exceptionally excited to take "SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES" to this new level," says Katia Louise, filmmaker and President, Wild for Life Foundation.  With your support, Wild for Life Foundation is making it happen for the horses, but we're not resting on our laurels. We want to give the horses the best shot possible.

As part of the theatrical release we'd like to book SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES in the major markets as well. This will enhance the film's attractiveness and credibility so that it can be seen as widely as possible.

Booking a film in well-regarded theaters in New York City and Los Angeles, and getting it reviewed by the major NY and LA film critics is crucial to the success of any film. A successful run and good reviews (even fair reviews) provide the hooks needed for wider distribution,  but there must also be committed funds for PR and advertising (P and A). Exhibitors in other cities will not book any film without this guarantee.

With the support of additional sponsors we'll be able to get this film in front as many people as possible and release it into other cities and venues.  Click here to learn about the many sponsorship opportunities for this cause and events and showings of this film over the holidays and into the new year.

The excitement about the release is starting to spread and we are seeing a large influx of emails from people wanting to know if SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES will play in a town near them. We LOVE the idea of more and more people experiencing this film in a theater, on the big screen, surrounded by others.  It truly adds to the magic of the experience and as proven through its festival run, there is a strong sense of community by its viewers.  People gather and form new bonds; they're inspired, motivated and come away with the knowledge needed to make a difference for our horses.

A good performance during these initial engagements can help expand the audience with other theaters taking the film on board.  The absolute best way to widen the audience for this film is to show exhibitors that people want to see it and will come.
If you are in the area where the film is showing, please come check it out.
Share our website and emails, and tell your friends.
If you are not nearby, but know people who are.  Please tell them about this important film project.

What about television, schools, DVD and the foreign markets? We know that we can’t get SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES into theaters everywhere, and that there are a lot of people itching to see this film.  We want you to know that it’s coming and it will be released to other venues and formats as soon as possible.  The U.S. theatrical release is leading its distribution and creating a demand for traditional markets including television, the educational circuit, DVD and a foreign market release in the same manner.
In the meantime, if you can catch the film in theaters this year, please do!  If you can help other theaters come on board by spreading the word, we'd really appreciate that because it would help the horses even more.

Help get this important film into more theaters by coming to see it and by word of mouth!  Your continued support will help us widen the audience for SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES.

EU Report reveals Public Health concerns related to Equine Meat originating from U.S.

For Immediate Release
Wild for Life Foundation
Los Angeles, CA
Oct 13, 2012
The European Commission Directorates-General Health and Consumers issues audit report on Public Health concerns related to Equine Meat originated from the U.S. The report  reveals systems do not meet EU standards, that 80% of the horses derived for slaughter come from the U.S., yet the USDA takes no responsibility with regard to their origin...

According to a food safety audit report regarding equine meat just released 10-11-2012, the system in place do not meet EU standards.  Findings reveal that of the eligible horses slaughtered for the production of meat to be exported to the EU, 80% is derived from horses imported from the US.

In addition, there was no evidence in the USDA documents that the USDA takes any responsibility with regard to the origin of the animals or to the reliability of the sworn statements on the medical treatments of animals. Further, the horses are not identified during the full six months covered by these statements. Also, there is no system in place to verify the declarations accompanying the horses presented for slaughter.
The overall conclusion is that the system in place for identification of live horses, the affidavits and the official controls thereof are presently not providing equivalent standards to those provided for by EU legislation.

The final report from the audit carried out in Mexico from April 17th- 27th, 2012 was performed in order to review the animal health control and certification procedures applicable to exports of live equidae to the European Union.

Subsequent to the Final Audit Report, U.S., it has been reported that U.S. auction houses postponed sales of horses for the purpose of slaughter for human consumption, and  Canadian horse slaughter plants have temporarily shut down.
These issues and findings directly related to contaminants recently found in horsemeat by Belgium officials were brought to light earlier through the powerful documentary film SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES: A NATION BETRAYED

Our International Public Awareness Campaign initially launched in 2010, when SAH first screened worldwide at the Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival, and won Best Documentary. Through the Campaign WFLF SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES continues to compel positive change and educate the public about the need for protection for our environment, people and the horses.

The film has been submitted for Oscar consideration (2012 theatrical release date TBA).  “SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES” an educational film project under Wild for Life Foundation, is set for theatrical release in NYC later this year. The Academy qualifying theatrical release is anticipated to bring international attention to these important issues.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES brings to light imminent and urgent health risks to humans and the environmental impact caused by the capture, removal, transport, and stockpiling of both wild and domestic horses to be slaughtered for their meat. Filmmaker, Katia Louise states that “the environmental impact is devastating, the animal cruelty is shocking, and the public health risks are appalling.”

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES: A Nation Betrayed is a brilliant and hard hitting exposé that reveals how the public has been misled by government agencies and corporate interests that run over the laws that are supposed to protect the horses, the public and the environment.
Further information about the EU Report is available online at the European Commission press room, Directorate-General Health & Consumers, Belgium, under “food safety - Food and Veterinary Office - audit reports”:  MX Mexico - Public Health - Equine meat - meat products and casings

According to the EU website, the European Commission Directorates-General Health & Consumers strives to make Europe a healthier, safer place, where consumers can be confident that their interests are protected.
