Their future is our future

This little baby foal, just weeks old, was orphaned and left to die after being chased down in a
roundup. Her mother was shipped to slaughter that same day. This little foal collapsed shortly after she was rescued. Her body shut down from the trauma. She was rushed to the nearest veterinary hospital where she clung to dear life for 17 days before she finally recovered enough to be released. She is seen here in her hospital room with a loving young visitor. The actual death count from the number of horses that shipped to slaughter as a result of that roundup series rose to over 2,000; countless others disappeared as kill trucks loaded with torchered & terrified horses continued to ship across federal borders underground. This orphan foal is one of dozens whose lives were saved through a grassroots collaboration of charity rescue services - one of many successful lifesaving missions under WFLF.

This is MorningStar. She grew up in WFLF's volunteer driven sanctuary and is thriving today, thanks to the continued support of caring people who never once gave up on her or the countless other victimized wild and domestic horses and burros who rely 100% on charity to survive. MorningStar's inspirational story of loss, betrayal and survival through love and healing serves as a testament for the need to end this total injustice and utter suffering caused by roundups, and unspeakable slaughter, and the profound understanding of how saving their lives is in truth at the core of the future we share in this world together. Their future is our future. Please join us as we stand as one with the horse nation.

There are many ways to take part - from volunteering at a local rescue, to supporting the boots-on-the ground groups who work in the trenches and save the lives of individual horses and burros, to supporting the groups that advocate for stronger laws that are needed to end these practices and protect these animals, to supporting the powerful outreach and educational campaigns that can help raise the public outcry and action needed for change.

It was the Year of the Horse – A look back at Horses Lives Saved

Oct 29, 2018
In early 2014, the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) received requests from a New Mexico nonprofit for money, services and goods to save the lives of approximately 150 of its horses from slaughter. WFLF launched a specific grassroots Rescue and Recovery Mission to help aid and save as many of the horses as possible. WFLF relied on its impeccable reputation and hard-earned resources to raise the attention and support needed to save these horses.  WFLF's robust advocacy and rescue efforts on behalf of its mission to save the horses caught international media attention and was followed and supported by the nation's top equine coalitions, several national animal welfare organizations and many equine rescue groups.

The New Mexico nonprofit and its representatives repeatedly endorsed and thanked WFLF and its
Horses Lives' Saved
staff for their efforts in saving the horses’ lives. WFLF contributed large sums of money and valuable lifesaving services to the New Mexico nonprofit to aid and care for the at-risk horses that were being temporarily housed by the New Mexico nonprofit at dry lot cattle pens. WFLF expended over $18,000.00 in 2014 to evacuate and transport approximately 100 horses to new homes selected by the nonprofit. At the nonprofit’s request, and at WFLF’s expense, WFLF agreed to accept possession of approximately 48 of the least adoptable horses, including 3 pregnant mares, at two WFLF facilities in California. It cost WFLF over $55,000.00 to save the horses in 2014.  WFLF's costs to feed, house and care for these horses continued thereafter and have exceeded $150,000.00 since 2014.

In 2015, WFLF received an anonymous whistleblower report which eventually led to the termination of certain individuals and the parting of ways of the two organizations. Just before departing, a certain individual filed claims against two WFLF representatives.  The court dismissed both cases in their entirety less than one month after they were filed.

WFLF has moved on and continues to dedicate its hard-earned resources toward advancing our valuable and life-saving animal protection missions.  As demonstrated by numerous testimonials, reviews and awards, WFLF operates its services and programs with the highest level of integrity, compassion and honor. We have successfully saved hundreds of wild and domestic horses and burros from abuse, neglect, slaughter and other forms of cruelty. The animals served by WFLF are provided with quality tender loving care, and peaceful safe housing.

We appreciate the kind and generous contributions that our organization continues to receive in support of its work. Our focus remains steadfast on our principle objectives of saving, protecting and preserving America’s horses through rescue, sanctuary and education.

GLOBAL CALL TO ACTION DEVILS GARDEN ROUNDUPS - STOP THE SLAUGHTER

ALERT! Take Action to help Stop the SELLING OFF of Calif. Wild Horses - to SLAUGHTER! And raise AWARENESS and HELP to Save and Keep them SAFE.

Modoc Forest Service is currently CHASING DOWN and TRAPPING 1000 California DEVIL'S GARDEN PLATEAU WILD HORSES and they intend to SELL ALL HORSES over the age of 10 WITHOUT LIMITATION for ONE DOLLAR each, TRANSLATION: BARBARIC SLAUGHTER!

This would VIOLATE CA PENAL § 598c, a California statute passed in 1998 which makes it
ILLEGAL to designate any California HORSES & BURROS FOR SLAUGHTER.

WFLF and SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES has ISSUED a CRISIS ALERT and GLOBAL CALL TO ACTION to the general public, the International SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES Coalition and its fellow pro-horse alliances to STAND UNITED in OPPOSITION to this outrageous TRAVESTY.

Facts about this roundup:
The roundup started Oct 10 and will continue through and until all 1000 WILD HORSES are captured. There is still time to SAVE LIVES!

These wild horses are being forced by helicopter to run for their lives across miles of extremely hazardous terrain including rocky and slippery slopes, and they will lose their families, their children, their homes, their freedom forever and many will lose their lives. Babies will be torn away from their mothers, and any mares 10 years old or more will be SOLD for a $1.

JOIN TO ADD YOUR VOICE NOW to the SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES Coalition as we STAND UNITED for the PROTECTION OF HORSES AND BURROS against CRUELTY.

Facts about Roundups in General:
During roundups equines of all ages and sizes, both fit and unfit are chased indiscriminately by motorized vehicles and aircraft; they are forced to run for hours across miles of rough terrain under extreme weather conditions without rest or water. They are oftentimes roped and dragged, and even sometimes hit or run over by helicopters; and some are even chased off cliffs during the roundups. Bands of horses and burros are chased at high speeds into enclosed trap sites where horses often collide into the metal gates, and into one another. This egregiously cruel handling of horses and burros causes them tremendous suffering and pain.

Untold numbers of California's horses and burros disappear every day - where do they go?

Did you know? - In California it's a felony for any person in the state to possess, transfer, receive, or hold a horse (defined to include ponies, donkeys and mules) with the intent to kill it, or have it killed, where the person knows, or should have known, that any part of the carcass will be used for human consumption.

Did you know that despite the passing of CA PENAL § 598c in 1998, untold numbers of California's horses and burros are butchered alive on bloody slaughterhouse floors to this day?

Where do you believe the breakdown in the legal system occurs that sadly enables protected CA horses and burros to be slaughtered?
