Wild For Life Foundation Launches Wild Burro Rescue and Recovery Mission

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Riverside, CA - December. 22, 2015 – The Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF) has issued an Emergency Rescue Resolution to help save and preserve California’s at-risk Wild Burros. Wild burros are being rounded up and removed by from their native homelands in Highgrove, CA by County Officials to prevent them from being hit by cars and trains.  The burros have been drawn to the busy streets where well-meaning residents and drivers have flocked to feed and water them.  It’s been reported that number of burros in the area have already been struck and killed by cars.  More than two dozen wild burros have recently been rounded up and impounded by the local County animal shelter.  Another 10-20 wild burros will soon face the same fate.
Rescue team members of WFLF's Wild Burro Rescue and Recovery Mission are working behind the scenes in effort to provide lifesaving rescue services and safe harbor for as many wild burros as possible.  "We are dealing with a crisis situation," says Katia Louise, WFLF Executive Director. "It's a tragedy. It’s dangerous for everyone and burros are dying."  Riverside County Animal Services (RCDAS) has defined the situation as an urgent matter.
Charity missions like the ‘WFLF Wild Burro Rescue and Recovery Mission’ help raise awareness and essential funds to aid at-risk wild burros that need urgent care and safe harbor  after losing their freedom, their homes and their families during roundups.

“We are dedicated to saving, protecting and preserving wild and domestic equines through rescue, sanctuary and education,” said Katia Louise.  “Central to WFLF’s Wild Equine Preservation Mission is our commitment to help see that wild equines are able to maintain their natural social structures. Fundamental to the core of WFLF’s equine rescue and sanctuary program is our commitment to assure a forever safe haven habitat for each and every animal that comes through our doors.”
Wild burros are losing their once protected native homes on America’s public lands. As the remaining number of Wild Horses and Burros in the U.S. nears extinction, education and appreciation through the protection and observation of Wild Burros Horses in natural sanctuary environments becomes tantamount to their survival as a species. America’s Wild Equids cannot be reproduced once they are gone.

WFLF’s Wild Horse and Burro Conservation Mission strives to preserve and protect the lives of rare and historic wild equines as part of the natural ecosystem and educate people about the need for the preservation of this threatened native species.  Additionally, through this Mission, rescued wild equines are given an opportunity to heal and thrive in WFLF’s natural habitat sanctuary and recovery center.

Support for WFLF’s Wild Burro Rescue and Recovery Mission can be made in a variety of ways. One can become a donor, sponsor a wild herd, make a contribution toward WFLF’s sanctuary land acquisition project, volunteer, or "take action" through social media by raising awareness.
Donations received by the Wild For Life Foundation are tax deductible and will help support this vital Mission. Click here to make a donation.

Saving America's Horses Puts America's Horses Front and Center

Never before has the need been so great to save, protect and preserve America’s horses. America’s horses are disappearing.  Without adequate Federal protection, every day hundreds of healthy, sound beautiful majestic horses are crammed into double deck cattle trucks and shipped across Federal borders where they are brutally butchered for their meat.  And, the
majority of people have no idea that this is going on.

That’s why education is the key to making the changes needed for America’s wild and
domestic horses and burros.  "Saving America’s Horses", the movie is a game changer for America’s horses, but crucial funding is needed to help bring this powerful and compelling documentary film to the masses.

As we work around the clock to release this multi-international award winning film to DVD and beyond, “Saving America's Horses” continues to raise awareness and compel people to action.

Just last week end we brought SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES to screen at the Equus Film Festival in NYC. Audiences came away from the movie raving and crowds gathered around our Saving America’s Horses (donated) billboard truck to learn more.  Gorgeous life-size wild horses running to freedom from cruelty were brought to the streets of the big apple – educating inspiring people to get involved.

Although the defunding of the appropriations for USDA inspectors in U.S. horse slaughter plants is currently back in place, America's wild and domestic horses continue to face the most  gruesome fate after being sold at local auctions around the country, then shipped for slaughter in Canada and Mexico. Awareness is key to lifesaving action.

We are working steadily to release Saving America’s Horses to DVD and to bring movie screenings to theaters and local community venues far and wide.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES is a powerful podium with a dynamic reach to animal lovers worldwide. This intelligent exposé also reveals how the public has been misled by several government agencies and corporate interests that run over the laws that are supposed to protect the horses, people and the environment.

Vital funds are being raised to put this powerful film in front of as many people as possible. Your continued support can help make this happen.

Thank you for your continued kind and generous support for this important project.

New horse slaughter legislation in the U.S.

Take action to help end U.S. horse slaughter
May 10, 2015-
The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act was just reintroduced in the House by Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH) and in the Senate by Sen. Menendez, Robert [D-NJ]. If passed by both the House and the Senate this bill would prohibit the slaughter of horses in the United States for human consumption, as well as the export of live horses for the same purpose.

Take action to help end the possibility of U.S. horse slaughter by sending an automated letter of support to Rep. Frank C Guinta. [R-NH-1]. With your support both people and horses would be protected by this new legislation.

Watch and share this PSA’s from WFLF-SAH, ""Health Alert: Toxic substances and the Human food chain"".

BACKGROUND
In the absence of federal protection, over 100,000 American wild and domestic horses and burros are shipped across federal borders to slaughter plants in Mexico and Canada each year. What most people don't realize is that 92% of the horses sent to slaughter are sound, young and healthy. These are among America’s finest and brightest horses; champion show horses, Thoroughbred racehorses, summer camp ponies and even wild horses taken from their native lands, but the resounding evidence of cruelty to equines inside the U.S. once they are designated as food animals is chilling. And, America’s horses are treated with many substances known to be toxic to humans; substances that can be lethal when ingested by humans, and many of which have been banned from the human food chain in most countries.  All this, and yet horse slaughter proponents are continuing to push for the reopening of horse slaughter plants in the U.S.
Now more than ever, we need to build support and momentum to save the horses and end this cruelty.
Stand and be heard - Stand united for the horses.

“Many truths now are coming forward. We must come together to acknowledge that our four-legged cousins, our sisters and brothers are in peril. We must embrace them and bring back the joy in our world, the love in our world and live together in peace and in harmony,” said Daniel Cualtli Yahtl Ramos.

“Katia, Red Horse Spirit Hawk, is the four-legged entrusted one.  She is their “Angel” mother and daughter of the 4 winds.   I am thankful for Katia’s amazing courage, that what is so wrong must be undone and made right.”
