Hall of Fame Thoroughbred Trainer, Nick Zito joins in to Save America's Horses

WFLF Humanion Films is pleased to announce that Hall of Fame Thoroughbred Trainer, Nick Zito has joined the film production as an Honorary Board Member for Saving America's Horses A Nation Betrayed.

Nick Zito is a New York native who grew up around Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens and began working in the sport as a teenager. He opened his own stable with 2 horses in 1972. He had his first career win at Philadelphia Liberty Bell in December 1972. Since then he has saddled 2 Kentucky Derby winners, 1 Kentucky Oaks winner, 1 Preakness Stakes winner, 2 Belmont Stakes winners, and trained 3 Eclipse award winning champions. He has won nearly every big stakes race there is in America. Nick has been a very outspoken horse advocate, especially racehorses. He currently sits on the advisory board of The Kentucky Equine Humane Center. The organization's policy of humane euthanasia instead of slaughter is one that Nick stands behind 100 %.

The Preview Trailer presents the inspirational tone of the film while also serving to raise awareness for the CAUSE. SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES A NATION BETRAYED depicts a country divided and inspires great hope for the protection of all horses and burros. It’s a tender yet honest look at the reality that our American horses are born into, the love, joy and respect they give us and in contrast, the complacent mindset of the pro slaughter proponents.

Award Winning Journalist, Brad Woodard joins the board in Saving America's Horses

WFLF Humanion Films is pleased to announce that
award winning Journalist, Brad Woodard has joined the film production as an Honorary Board Member for Saving America's Horses, A Nation Betrayed.


Brad's passion is storytelling. As a member of KARE'S "Extras" unit, his primary focus was long form, in-depth reports. Brad has also been a frequent contributor to NBC's "Today" show, with nearly 200 of his reports airing before a national audience.

Brad's work has been recognized with numerous international, national and regional awards. He received a National Press Club Award in 2008. In 2005, he was the recipient of a Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals. He also received a 2005 platinum award and a 1998 gold award from the Houston International Film Festival, also known as Worldfest - Houston. The largest film festival in the world awarded the gold to Brad for his profile of a Holocaust survivor returning to Auschwitz to recount his experiences as a prisoner there a half century earlier. On a national level, Brad was the 1994 recipient of the highly coveted Sigma Delta Chi Award for his feature on the death of the family farm. Brad won the Genesis Award in 2009 for his piece entitled “Slaughtergate” which highlights the plight of America’s horses, who are being transported across the border in appalling conditions to be slaughtered. Brad also won five other national Genesis Awards during the years 2007, 2006, 2003, 2000 and 1994 for his investigative reports exposing cruelty to animals used in research and in the production of drugs.

Jockeys Race to Save America's Horses

WFLF Humanion Films is pleased to announce that husband and wife jockeys Diamond Jim Brooks and Laura J Hearn have joined the supporting cast in Saving America's Horses, A Nation Betrayed.


2006 Texas Jockey of the year, Diamond Jim has been a jockey for over 37 years, riding in over 300 races per year. Brooks won 834 races, ranking 19th in Southern California before returning to Texas in 1998. Diamond Jim’s biggest money win was $925,000 in the Texas Classic Futurity at in 2001. Brooks is also an active equine advocate and he says, “I’m hoping to help stomp out the brutal practice of horse slaughter before I’m through with racing.”

Laura J Hearn’s career as a jockey started out training and racing horses. This Arabian Jockey of the Year, 1977, raced and trained Fagai, the International Arabian Horse Association Horse of the Year and Filly of the Year. Laura then rode and trained Bask-O-Zel, the 1980 National Champion Racehorse. Laura is a Certified Horse Master and Senior Instructor in Stable Management and Equitation. She states that horses have been her deepest passion all her life and her goal is to one day see Drug Free Racing in America. She is an avid advocate and active campaigner in the fight to end the inhumane practice of horse slaughter. Laura says, “I will fight or die trying to save horses from such a cruel end. These horses are responsible for my every happiness in life.”
