Sharing a little Goodness for the Heart and Soul from Saving America's Horses, this Feel Good Friday

Welcome the Spirit of the Horse into Your Heart!

Like us, horses are social beings; they have strong family units (known as bands).

Research shows that there are many health benefits for people who spend quality time with horses; it reduces stress and alleviates anxiety, and even lowers blood pressure and heart rate.

Horses help build confidence. They do not judge nor blame.

Horses reflect back the emotions we feel inside, and by sharing their breath and welcoming their spirit into our heart we can become more aware of who we are, and how our behavior impacts others.

"May the healing hearts of horses help us discover and learn to nurture a compassionate reference for all life." - Katia Louise

Horses & burros heal our hearts and can heal our lands!

Wild equids are keystone herbivores in our failing ecosystems, and wildfire fuel reducers. Their presence in the wild helps to slow climate change via a reduction in CO2 emissions from catastrophic wildfires. In the United Kingdom and other parts of the world, entire rangelands are successfully being rejuvenated through the return of wild equids in conservation grazing.

Horses & Burros Heal our Hearts and Can Heal our Lands

Horses & Burros Heal our Hearts and Can Heal our Lands

America’s wild horses have been denied any genuine status or protection in the US. They have instead been labeled as “feral” and “invasive” which allows them to be legally harassed, shot, rounded up and hauled off to slaughter.

Horses and burros were previously thought to have disappeared from the continent roughly 10,000 years ago. However, a surmounting body of evidence confirms that horses never totally died out in America. Substantial evidence proves that the Equus species survived the ice age in America, and evidence of their continued presence has become too substantial to ignore.

Incontrovertible and indisputable fossil records and molecular biology evidence confirms that today’s Genus Equus (HORSES, BURROS and ZEBRAS) originated and co-evolved with the habitat of North America. Many people don’t even realize that the genus EQUUS, today’s horses and burros are GENETICALLY THE SAME as those that lived in the U.S. before their presumed extinction.

Why is this important? As a native species, wild horses and burros compliment the natural environment of North America. They are recognized by scientists all over the world for restoring rangelands, boosting biodiversity, and helping to the return of a wide variety of plants and invertebrates to the lands where they roam. Scientists and conservationists have indeed found that the re-introduction of wild equines to open lands is a positive way to restore ecosystems and wildlife.

Saving America's Wild Horses & Burros from Extinction

Oct 22, 2021

ALERT!  The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have recently accelerated their violent roundups and their intended removal of the last wild horses and burros from America’s public lands.  Countless wild horses’ and burros’ lives and the future of America’s free-roaming wild horses and burros are under immediate threat of destruction!

According to the BLM’s own 2020-2021 estimate, the actual number of wild horses and burros on the open range has drastically declined by more than 96% since their last actual census.  This drastic decline was caused by The BLM; yet they are the agency charged by Congress to protect America’s wild horses and burros.

Now the BLM fully intends to severely diminish our horses’ and burros’ natural presence in the wild to less than 98%. See their most recent submitted report to Congress, BLM 2020 WHB Report.

As also revealed by the same Report, the BLM is complicit in their ruthless and methodical plan of genocidal intent to wipe out the last 1.3% of America’s precious wild horses and burros through acts of escalated violent roundups and permanent sterilization.

We are strongly opposed to this convoluted plan to sterilize the last 1.3% of America’s free roaming wild horses and burros.  We see this as a modern day “Trail of Tears” for America’s horses and burros whom are being zeroed out from their native lands.

We as native people we honor the horse nation, our sacred relatives; horses and burros are as much a part of the land as we are; their future is our future.

Saving America's Horses helps to bring aid and provide for the vital needs America's at-risk equines through the support of wild and domestic horse and burro preservation and the prevention of equine cruelty.

We have uncovered substantial evidence which suggests that the public is being misled about the use of PZP on free-roaming wild horses.  Many Need-to-Know facts about the use PZP on free-roaming wild horses and burros have been concealed and or omitted in the reports generated by agencies and groups that support it and or who benefit from the use of PZP on America’s free roaming wild horses and burros.

We have extensively researched the risks of using PZP on America’s free roaming wild horses and burros.  The Wild For Life Foundation is a nonprofit animal protection organization which was founded for the purpose of prevention of cruelty to animals, and Saving America’s Horses is dedicated to breaking the cycle of animal cruelty and the protection of all equines from extermination, roundups, slaughter, and other forms of cruelty.  We are therefore opposed to the use of PZP on America’s free roaming wild horses and burros. We encourage all those who want to protect America’s wild horses and burros from cruelty to learn about the harmful risks and join in helping to expose the true facts.

NEED-TO-KNOW FACTS:

The off-label use of pesticides such as PZP is widely accepted for use by wild horse advocates to suppress fertility in captive Mustangs in nonbreeding environments such as sanctuaries and preserves.  However, the repeated use of these chemicals on equines in the wild could spell total disaster for wild equines due to the long-term adverse effects.

PZP (aka Spayvac) has come under fire by a growing number of concerned equine experts and advocates. Evidence shows the use of Spayvac and Gonacon on wild free roaming horses has been found to sterilize the mares and suppress their natural hormonal behaviors. Their fitness is altered, as is their ability to survive in the wild.

PZP is a pesticide-sterilant that was registered without toxicity-testing. It tricks the immune system into producing antibodies that cause ovarian dystrophy, autoimmune oophoritis, ovarian cysts, and premature ovarian failure. It causes out-of-season births, where foaling occurs nearly year-round rather than in the Spring.  After just 3 consecutive treatments, return to fertility could take up to 8 years, if ever, and the if the first dose is given before puberty it can trigger sterility.

Some wild horse groups have recently started supporting the use of PZP fertility control on equines in the wild, with the hope that the BLM would move away from their cruel and costly helicopter roundups.  However, the BLM does not care about the horses and burros, and if the last of America’s free-roaming wild horses and burros are repeatedly treated with PZP, their existence in the wild will soon be over.

About the Wild For Life Foundation

The Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) has been at the forefront of bringing the un-whitewashed truth to the public on the issue of horse slaughter and the protection of wild horses and burros in the wild.

With a focus on the prevention of cruelty as the primary goal, WFLF strongly urges a strong and united voice for the protection of wild horses and burros from roundups, slaughter, and extinction. Supporting conservation measures that benefit the environment without harming our horses and burros is one sure way that people can make a compelling difference.

Say "No!" to the Killing, the Roundups and the Slaughter

 Nov 23, 2020

We remain steadfast in our dedication to our mission of Saving America’s Horses, no matter the major changes and challenges which have continued to impact all of us over the last several months.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES is a multimedia educational project under the Wild For Life Foundation charity (WFLF).  With support through GlobalGiving, we are able to expand our reach to more animal lovers, horse enthusiasts and a wider community at large, to help spread the word about the vital need to save and protect America's Horses from unspeakable suffering, malicious harm, and gruesome death.

Every day, countless horses’ and burros’ lives are lost to inhumane and needless killing that can be prevented; this killing additionally places human lives at risk, contributes to toxic waste and global warming.  It remains our mission to see that this becomes a thing of the past.

Through SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES, we spotlight the imminent and urgent health risks to humans and the environmental impact caused by the capture, removal, transport and stockpiling of both wild and domestic horses that are slaughtered for human consumption.

The SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES project brings important facts to the benefit of public interests and inspires civic engagement by showing how existing laws that are meant to protect the horses, people and the environment are being run over.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES also raises awareness for the protection of America’s wild equines as an indigenous species to North America. Support for this project helps efforts to assure the continued defunding of horse slaughter in the U.S., and it supports equine rescue and recovery efforts for America’s at-risk horses and burros.

You can help the horses by sharing this information through our page on the GlobalGiving platform.  By sharing facts and information about this issue together we can make a difference toward breaking the cycle of animal cruelty for America’s horses and burros and cultivating the action and social change needed for the protection of all equines from abuse, cruelty and gruesome death. By taking action and sharing this message, you can help save lives today.

The demand for truth and the need for ethical and moral justice have never been greater.  SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES answers these demands and more.  It’s not just about the horses; it’s about how we as a society exist, our footprint on the world and the future of our planet and the legacy we leave for future generations to come.

Thank you for sharing and helping to make a difference.

The Team at SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES

Thank you for being a voice for the horses through thick and thin

Jul 7 2020

We all have been impacted by some major changes and challenges over the last few months. But no matter what goes on in the world around us, we have not wavered from our mission of Saving America's Horses.

Every day, countless horses’ and burros’ lives are lost to inhumane and needless killing that can be prevented; this killing additionally places human lives at risk, contributes to toxic waste and global warming.  It remains our mission to see that this becomes a thing of the past.

Through Saving America’s Horses we spotlight the imminent and urgent health risks to humans and the environmental impact caused by the capture, removal, transport and stockpiling of both wild and domestic horses that are slaughtered for human consumption.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES tells the story of how one of America’s most treasured and iconic species struggles to survive in a world where two camps claim to be saving them; one that actually does, and the other that is instead found to be brutally exploiting them, eliminating them and driving them to extinction.   This project brings important facts to the benefit of public interests and increases civic engagement through showing how certain government agencies and special interests groups run over existing laws that are meant to protect the horses, people and the environment.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES raises awareness for the protection of America’s wild equines as an indigenous species to North America. Support for this project also helps efforts to assure the continued defunding of horse slaughter in the U.S., and it also supports equine rescue and recovery efforts for America’s at-risk horses and burros.

This past year, WFLF’s leadership team laid out an ambitious ProActive Crisis Communications plan as part of an Emergency Response policy.  This is a plan and goal toward increased safeguards to protect the organization, the animals and its mission from conflicts of interest, adversary propaganda, conjecture and the dissemination of inaccurate information.

Unmask the Evil through Knowledge and Truth

November 19, 2018, Los Angeles, CA - The Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) today released two brand new infographics as part of its ongoing efforts toward advancing the organization's purpose.

The first infographic unveils a sneak peak at the organization's functional efficiency and impact for
the year 2017, and the second infographic serves as a tool to help unleash the power of knowledge and truth in the fight against cruelty and evil.

The infographics serve as informative and compelling tools to help supporters advance our important lifesaving mission.

RECENT ISSUE UPDATES:
Currently, the Modoc Forest Service is CHASING DOWN and TRAPPING 1000 California DEVIL'S GARDEN PLATEAU WILD HORSES with the intention to sell 100's of the horses without limitation, enabling buyers to purchase up to 36 horses for as little as one dollar each.

On Friday Nov 9, 2018 California Attorney General Becerra issued a WARNING to the USDA and the US Forest Service in Wash. DC, and both CA Forest Service Districts, to COMPLY with California Penal Code § 598c which PROHIBITS the slaughter of horses. WFLF applauds Attorney General Becerra's warning.  This is a strong stride forward for America's horses who depend on your united and continued action in raising awareness through the power of knowledge and truth.

On Oct. 13, 2018, Saving America's Horses issued a Crisis Alert and Global Call to Action with true facts about slaughter and the law, together with contact information for officials in power who can help enforce the law. We thank all of you who took action.  YOUR VOICE MATTERS

But the fight is far from over for California's horses and burros who are continuously shipped underground to slaughter, despite California's Penal Code § 598c.  Violating this law is a felony that carries a prison sentence of up to three years. Cal. Pen. Code § 598c(c). However, in the absence of federal protection, over 100,000 American horses are shipped across federal borders to slaughter plants in Mexico and Canada each year.

America's wild horse and burro population is under an escalated direct threat of the U.S.D.A, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the Department of Interior (DOI), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).  All of these agencies are engaged in aggressive pro-slaughter activities, with varying degrees of underhanded maneuvering and duplicity.  Make no mistake - all these agencies operate at the root of the pro-slaughter movement!

In May 2018, the DOI ordered the BLM to empty out wild horse and holding corrals by selling 25 horses at a time with no questions asked to any buyer. Despite a prohibition on such cruelty by the Interior Appropriations Committee, the Interior Secretary has mandated that the horses must be sold. As pointed out by Attorney General Becerra, "this is a reversal of U.S. previous policy of following restrictions on the sale of wild horses that Congress regularly imposes on the federal Bureau of Land Management. Under these Congressional restrictions, wild horses cannot be sold for processing into commercial products, including food."

As advocates in the ongoing fight for a national win against slaughter, one of our biggest challenges has been and remains getting the truth out in the open. What most people don't realize is that the disinformation campaigns related to our mission are driven by deep pocket special interests who do NOT really care about the horses at all. No matter what you've heard, there is only one truth: horse slaughter is NOT humane euthanasia. Nor is it a "necessary evil".

WFLF and Saving America's Horses urge all those who want to make a difference for the horses and burros, to stand united and make your voice heard. Armed with the knowledge of truth we can make a win against the pro-slaughter movement and their underhanded efforts, undermining devices, and misleading propagandaJoin us!

WFLF Saving America's Horses' speaks to the need for protection of America's wild and domestic horses and burros both locally and on a national level. "We are adamantly opposed to slaughter," states Jay Coskie, vice president, WFLF.  "We seek and support strong federal protection for these animals, for a permanent federal ban against slaughter in the U.S. and an end to their exportation from the U.S. for slaughter in foreign countries." It was the Year of the Horse – A look back at Horses Lives Saved

It was the Year of the Horse – A look back at Horses Lives Saved

Oct 29, 2018
In early 2014, the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) received requests from a New Mexico nonprofit for money, services and goods to save the lives of approximately 150 of its horses from slaughter. WFLF launched a specific grassroots Rescue and Recovery Mission to help aid and save as many of the horses as possible. WFLF relied on its impeccable reputation and hard-earned resources to raise the attention and support needed to save these horses.  WFLF's robust advocacy and rescue efforts on behalf of its mission to save the horses caught international media attention and was followed and supported by the nation's top equine coalitions, several national animal welfare organizations and many equine rescue groups.

The New Mexico nonprofit and its representatives repeatedly endorsed and thanked WFLF and its
Horses Lives' Saved
staff for their efforts in saving the horses’ lives. WFLF contributed large sums of money and valuable lifesaving services to the New Mexico nonprofit to aid and care for the at-risk horses that were being temporarily housed by the New Mexico nonprofit at dry lot cattle pens. WFLF expended over $18,000.00 in 2014 to evacuate and transport approximately 100 horses to new homes selected by the nonprofit. At the nonprofit’s request, and at WFLF’s expense, WFLF agreed to accept possession of approximately 48 of the least adoptable horses, including 3 pregnant mares, at two WFLF facilities in California. It cost WFLF over $55,000.00 to save the horses in 2014.  WFLF's costs to feed, house and care for these horses continued thereafter and have exceeded $150,000.00 since 2014.

In 2015, WFLF received an anonymous whistleblower report which eventually led to the termination of certain individuals and the parting of ways of the two organizations. Just before departing, a certain individual filed claims against two WFLF representatives.  The court dismissed both cases in their entirety less than one month after they were filed.

WFLF has moved on and continues to dedicate its hard-earned resources toward advancing our valuable and life-saving animal protection missions.  As demonstrated by numerous testimonials, reviews and awards, WFLF operates its services and programs with the highest level of integrity, compassion and honor. We have successfully saved hundreds of wild and domestic horses and burros from abuse, neglect, slaughter and other forms of cruelty. The animals served by WFLF are provided with quality tender loving care, and peaceful safe housing.

We appreciate the kind and generous contributions that our organization continues to receive in support of its work. Our focus remains steadfast on our principle objectives of saving, protecting and preserving America’s horses through rescue, sanctuary and education.

Facts about this roundup:
The roundup started Oct 10 and will continue through and until all 1000 WILD HORSES are captured. There is still time to SAVE LIVES!

These wild horses are being forced by helicopter to run for their lives across miles of extremely hazardous terrain including rocky and slippery slopes, and they will lose their families, their children, their homes, their freedom forever and many will lose their lives. Babies will be torn away from their mothers, and any mares 10 years old or more will be SOLD for a $1.

JOIN TO ADD YOUR VOICE NOW to the SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES Coalition as we STAND UNITED for the PROTECTION OF HORSES AND BURROS against CRUELTY.

Facts about Roundups in General:
During roundups equines of all ages and sizes, both fit and unfit are chased indiscriminately by motorized vehicles and aircraft; they are forced to run for hours across miles of rough terrain under extreme weather conditions without rest or water. They are oftentimes roped and dragged, and even sometimes hit or run over by helicopters; and some are even chased off cliffs during the roundups. Bands of horses and burros are chased at high speeds into enclosed trap sites where horses often collide into the metal gates, and into one another. This egregiously cruel handling of horses and burros causes them tremendous suffering and pain.
