Be a Hero for the Horses

Be a Hero for the Horses Today by Helping Saving America’s Horses

The recent lifting of the ban on funding for USDA horse slaughter inspectors in the U.S. was a below-the-belt assault on America by the proponents of horse slaughter, but with your help, the power of SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES can set the horses free!

“Saving America’s Horses” represents the underdogs in the battle to save the horses. We are the pro horse/ anti slaughter vets, trainers, breeders, jockeys, handlers, investigators, rescuers, protection groups, horse owners and policymakers whose efforts have been muted and squelched by a well funded pro slaughter PR machine; UNTIL NOW!

"Saving America's Horses - A Nation Betrayed" is the lifesaving documentary film that can change everything for our horses. With your generous support “Saving America’s Horses – A Nation Betrayed” can be seen by the masses in 2012.

Plans are being put into action to bring this extremely compelling film resource to the policymakers and to the public at large with distribution targeted for 2012. Wild for Life Foundation is asking for your help to bring this landmark film recourse to the public release with a year-end donation.

“Saving America’s Horses” is an educational project under Wild for Life Foundation and relies 100 % on donations. The Saving America’s Horses initiative is a national coalition of equine professionals, plus domestic and wild horse rescue and protection organizations who have collaborated forces and have contributed their voices to in effort to effect change through this film. Many production services have also been donated to WFLF by IMA studios to make this film possible. But this film will not make it to the masses without YOUR continued support. Please be a hero for the horses today and donate now.

Right now, thousands of America’s horses — all types and disciplines, continue to suffer on U.S. soil; wild horses are being stampeded down icy lava fields by helicopter, all breeds stockpiled into feedlots, and crammed into double-deck cattle trailers for days on end, in record freezing temperatures without medical care, food or rest. Only a federal ban can protect our horses from the violent and destructive predatory trade of horse slaughter.

“Saving America’s Horses – A Nation Betrayed” sends a loud wake up call to the world, shining a light on the truth that proponents don’t want the public to know. This film is the most comprehensive and compelling feature documentary film about this issue ever made. It’s an intelligent and hard hitting expose` that will wake up and shake up the public so that they will take the action needed to get the federal protection bills passed.
Your gift today can help make 2012 the year when horse slaughter is finally banned in the U.S.
Support "Saving America's Horses" and not only be part of the solution, but also take part in this powerful vehicle for change.

Sincerely,
Katia Louise

Meet Carmel: Saving America's Horses' Hero for Horses Ambassador

Meet Carmel: Saving America's Horses' Hero for Horses Ambassador

Carmel is a Thoroughbred racehorse with a winning track record, but she, like 1000's of other Thoroughbreds in the U.S. was not provided protection, safety and welfare following the end of her career.
Carmel was sold at auction for slaughter, but just before being shipped she was rescued by Wild for Life Foundation. Though she was underweight and traumatized from the ordeal, she has made a full recovery.
Meet Carmel, SAH's Ambassador Hero for Horses
Thanks to the generous donations of supporters like you, WFLF's Lifetime Equine Refuge has been able to provide Carmel the guarantee of lifetime care.

Lifetime Equine Refuge together with the Saving America's Horses initiative is proud to welcome Carmel as the new Ambassador of the Hero for Horses campaign which will help launch the landmark film, "Saving America's Horses - A Nation Betrayed" into the mainstream.

JUST RELEASED! Profound humanitarian Trailer from "Saving America's Horses"

For Immediate Release
Wild for Life Foundation
Los Angeles, CA
Dec 13, 2011

IMPACT, a profound new trailer from Wild for Life Foundation's "Saving America's Horses - A Nation Betrayed" is sending a staggering wake up call to U.S. policymakers. Horses are not the only ones in danger due to the lifting of a ban on USDA inspections for horse slaughter. Production for  "Saving America's Horses", a documentary film slated for public release in 2012, is releasing a brilliant trailer straight from the title sequence of this film. This powerful trailer exposes the scathing truth about what is in store for America if horse slaughter plants reopen on U.S. soil.
It's no coincidence that this commanding trailer is being launched on the National Day of the Horse, a day set aside to celebrate the dignity of this loyal partner to mankind. This award winning film explores the human-animal bond of horse and man through an illuminating humanitarian lens.

"Film North presented Katia Louise, Director of 'Saving America's Horses' with the RBC/Film North Best Environmental Film Award, because no film in this year's program has moved and impacted on the audience more. At Film North we believe that there is power in films. 'Saving America's Horses' brings the plight of an endangered species to the forefront of awareness. Morally, intellectually and environmentally, mankind is obliged to evolve in the direction of preserving the equine. We congratulate and salute Katia and her dedicated team for championing and persevering this worthy cause in the face of horrendous obstacles." - Lucy Wing, Director Film North, Canada

"'Saving America’s Horses' helps spotlight what is becoming an urgent global humanitarian crisis – the pollution of fresh water. The RBC Blue Water Project is our commitment to protecting the lifeblood of this planet that we all need to share. Join the wave, and help us create a blue water future." - Jeff Boyd, Regional President, Ontario North and East, RBC Royal Bank

"We applaud RBC's leadership role toward fostering a greater commitment to water stewardship in Canada and abroad," says the Katia Louise, Filmmaker of "Saving America's Horses". The launch of this trailer sends a red flag alert to policymakers about the critical need to protect the environment and our world's fresh water resources.

In addition to the environmental disaster, and the legacy of cruelty this violent industry leaves behind, anyone considering the reopening of horse slaughter must beware of the “$42million in losses attributed directly to horse slaughter” as stated by Henry Skjerven, the former director of the recently debunked Natural Valley Farms, Canada.

Natural Valley Farms was a former beef slaughter plant that had converted over to slaughtering horses. In a public statement by Henry Skjerven, he said "Natural Valley Farms died the day the decision makers chose to kill horses… most notable was our failure with the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency)". As can be noted on the CFIA website, they’re "dedicated to safeguarding food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment and economy." (The CFIA removed the company's operating license)

Proponents of horse slaughter are urging U.S. cattle producers to convert their operations to killing horses, but some meat producers remember all too well Henry Skjerven's cautionary tale. Ted Pohlman of Pohlman’s Meat Processing, Indiana told WTHI TV "if a slaughterhouse starts killing horses.. they’ll lose all their beef and hog business.”    Even Pohlman believes many people have too many emotional attachments to horses to consider killing and eating them. Pohlman also stated concerns about the safety of horse meat given the toxic substances they receive.

"Saving America's Horses" is an educational project under Wild for Life Foundation, a 501 c3 nonprofit charity with a mission to save, protect and preserve equines.

Never before has there been a need so great

For Immediate Release
Wild for Life Foundation
Saving America's Horses
Los Angeles, Ca
Dec 7, 2011

Never before has there been a need so great to ban together for the greater good in the protection of one of our most precious and historic natural resources, the horse.

The recent lifting of a ban on funding for USDA inspectors at horse slaughter plants in the U.S., fueled by pro slaughter propaganda has led to a proverbial media frenzy with reports based on proponent anecdotes rather than reality, or actual fact checking.

Documented evidence of egregious violations and a lack of enforcement by the USDA in U.S. slaughterhouses led to the defunding of USDA inspections in 2007, but in the absence of federal ban on horse slaughter, our wild and domestic horses continue to be shipped across federal borders where they are slaughtered just as inhumanely to this very day.

The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011, S.B. 1176, amends the Horse Protection Act (HPA) to prohibit the sale or transport of horses or equine parts in interstate or foreign commerce with the intent of processing for human consumption. The House version of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act is known as H.R. 2966.

Regardless of why, we as a culture, are so repulsed by the thought of consuming horse flesh, and the reasons are many; if we fail to uphold our fundamental moral and social responsibilities, we are in effect dooming the fate of our own humanity.

If you are concerned about the inhumane treatment of animals, or concerned about serious threats to human health, or concerned about sustaining our environment, support Saving America's Horses. Only a federal ban can protect us from the destructive and predatory trade of horse slaughter.

Saving America’s Horses, A Nation Betrayed is a loud wake up call for every American,” says Laura Allen of Animal Law Coalition.  This international award winning documentary film is the single most comprehensive and compelling resource ever made available, and it features many leading equine welfare professionals in the U.S.

"The beauty of the cinematography lay in stark contrast to the dark truths that the film so painstakingly and irrefutably laid bare. The public must see this film!" —John Holland, Equine Welfare Alliance

We invite all those that wish to uphold the integrity in doing the right thing, to come stand with us. Join us in support of saving, protecting and preserving America's wild and domestic equines. Support the "Saving America's Horses" initiative and not only be part of the solution, but also take part in this powerful vehicle for change.

Sincerely,
Katia Louise

America's Horses Under Siege!

Wild for Life Foundation
"Saving America's Horses"
Nov 30, 2011

We don't eat our horses for many reasons.  We respect the bond of their love, they are sentient beings and they have earned an honorable place in our society and deserve dignified and humane treatment through to the end of their lives.

Should Americans spend over $5Million in tax payer dollars a year toward toxic pollution, increased crimes rates, promoting tainted meat products and endorsing barbaric cruelty to animals?"

What about the scientific evidence that reveals the serious health risks and lethal effects when people consume toxic substances banned from the human food chain?

"Saving America's Horses" provides a platform for the leading equine welfare organizations in the U.S. that have been working to ban horse slaughter for over the past decade.  Please help support our work by telling your friends about this important film project, and donate by mail or on line by visiting our website: www.savingamericashorses.org

"Saving America's Horses - A Nation Betrayed" is an intelligent and touching expose` that can raise the public outcry needed to pass a federal ban on horse slaughter. This documentary film is in post production with public release slated for early 2012, but funds are needed to pay for special processing in order to get "Saving America's Horses" to final print.

Big Ag wants to bring horse slaughter back to the U.S. and they've got deep pocket special interests helping to pave their way. If America doesn't speak out to stop it, Big Ag could open a horse slaughter plant near you, next year!

Help keep horse slaughter out of America by  supporting "Saving America's Horses"!

Since 2006, Congress has prevented horse slaughter in the U.S. by cutting funds for inspections of horse meat from its annual Agriculture Appropriations bill, but the fate of America's horses has now been undermined in one swift move. There has been overwhelming support by the American public, the horse community and the House of Representatives to include de-funding language in the 2012 Agriculture Appropriations bill but special Conference Committee members Representative Jack Kingston (R-GA),  Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), just removed that language from the final bill. Obama signed this bill into law on Nov 18th, 2011.

"Saving America's Horses" is film project under Wild for Life Foundation, a 501 c3 nonprofit charity dedicated to protecting, saving and preserving wild and domestic equines. Donations to Wild for Life Foundation are tax deductible to the full extend permitted by law.

America's Horses Facing Abusive USDA Slaughter

For Immediate Release
Nov 16, 2011
Wild for Life Foundation,
Los Angeles, CA

Despite overwhelming support to keep horse slaughter out of America three legislators have undercut the safety and welfare of our horses. Since 2006, Congress has prevented horse slaughter in the U.S. by cutting funds for inspections of horse meat from its annual Agriculture Appropriations bill, but the fate of America's horses has now been undermined in one swift move. There has been overwhelming support by the American public, the horse community and the House of Representatives to include defunding language in the 2012 Agriculture Appropriations bill but special Conference Committee members Representative Jack Kingston (R-GA),  Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), just removed that language from the final bill.

The extensive evidence of insidious cruelty when horse slaughter was permitted in the U.S. underscores the crucial need for protective legislation, but the truth about the misuse of humane guidelines by the proponents of slaughter has been a powerful device in their deceiving campaigns. "One of the biggest challenges in getting protection against the cruelty of horse slaughter is the constant misinformation propagated by proponents of horse slaughter and then circulated by the media," said Katia Louise, Founder Wild for Life Foundation, Director "Saving America's Horses".

"The action to restore the federal program will cost Americans at least $5 million a year and pull limited USDA inspectors from ensuring the humane treatment and safety of our nation’s food supply,” said Chris Heyde, deputy director of AWI’s government and legal affairs department.

Wild for Life Foundation is calling on everyone who cares about the welfare of America’s horses to demand that Congress pass the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act immediately. We must stay vigilant in our efforts to educate the public and our policymakers about the truth of this barbaric practice.

Awe Inspired Film Exceeds Expectations

"Saving America's Horses" screens to a jam packed audience at the International Equine Welfare Conference after winning Best Environmental Film in Canada.

"The first day of the International Equine Conference was topped off with, Katia Louise's award winning film “Saving America’s Horses  -  A Nation Betrayed” which screened to a jam-packed audience. The impact was visceral and awe inspiring at the same time. The beauty of the cinematography lay in stark contrast to the dark truths that the film so painstakingly and irrefutably laid bare. The overwhelming response was "the public must see this film!" —John Holland, President EWA

Cynthia D'Errico of Montreal, Canada flew in to DC just to see this film at the conference. “I waited 2 years to see Saving America's Horses. It exceeded all my expectations. It's a compelling passion driven production with lush yet dignified photography, intelligent cutaway shots, and it gave a through picture of our need to protect and preserve America’s horses.” —Cynthia D’Errico

The special private screening at the conference played to the largest number of cast members and advocates to date. Cast members in attendance included including Rep Ed Whitfield, former mayor Paula Bacon,  John Holland, Laura Allen, Dr Elliot Katz, Julie Caramante, Craig Downer, JoAnne Normile, Joy Aten, Sonja Meadows, Susan Wagner, Ginger Kathrens, Suzanne Roy and Katia Louise.

“Saving America's Horses left me breathless. It's a deeply passionate look into the world of both wild and domestic horses. This exceptional film clarifies the highly controversial issue about the inhumane treatment of equines going to slaughter. It raises the bar for animal welfare in this country and renews the sense of urgency to help these horses. It's an enlightening and moving experience for anyone, even for those coming from years of experience in the thoroughbred industry like myself.” —Shelley Abrams, racehorse owner, Founder of "Horses Helping Horses", Co-Founder Americans Against Horse Slaughter
