About the Production, Release and Distribution of Saving America's Horses, the early years

THE EARLY YEARS
PRODUCTION, RELEASE AND DISTRIBUTION: Research and investigation into the issues that SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES, the movie centers on first began in 1998 and has continued through and into the production phase of this film which began in 2009. The first festival cut of this educational documentary film project was released worldwide in 2010 through the Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival where it won BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM. Subsequent festival cuts of the project were released thereafter through multiple festival screenings where the film won numerous international awards including BEST ENVIRONMENTAL FILM in Canada.

The film project was then completely remastered and reformatted in conformance with ST 428-2:2006 D-Cinema Distribution Master requirements as set by the ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES for Academy qualification and was then released with Oscar consideration and exhibited through BI-COASTAL THEATRICAL RELEASE in 2012.

"Saving America's Horses: A Nation Betrayed" is an educational film project created as a social action tool by the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF), for people who want to make a difference. Promoting wild horse conservation and preservation initiatives – the prevention of equine cruelty – and to support the return of horse and burro populations to the wild and provide lifelong sanctuary for equines in need. SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES is a central tool in a larger grassroots effort focused on saving this indigenous species for the greater good, and supporting the wildlife and natural ecosystems that depend on them now and for generations to come.

About the Filmmaker
Katia Louise is the founder and President of Wild for Life Foundation, and the director of the international award winning film SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES: A NATION BETRAYED. Filmmaker and lifelong horse woman, Katia Louise, of Sioux descent, grew up in the entertainment industry and combines her skills working both in front of and behind the camera. Ms. Louise is an inspirational speaker on issues involving wild and domestic equine welfare, preservation and horse slaughter. Her work as the director of SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES inspired the international alliance of equine welfare experts and industry stakeholders and professionals, together with wild and domestic equine advocates in a united stance against cruelty. Ms Louise’s findings and reports are featured and referenced in international news publications, syndicated news and documented in the award winning film, SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES: A NATION BETRAYED, the transcripts of which have been invited to be part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Research Library collection.
