Founded in 2009, the SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES Initiative is a Global Coalition founded on the powerful alliance of more than 50 of the top most influential anti-slaughter experts in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and has grown to include members from over 50 Nations from around the world; standing together as a union of likeminded professionals, individuals, organizations, companies and grassroots groups. We strive break the cycle of animal cruelty for horses & burros through cultivating action and inspiring social change for the protection of equines from slaughter.

We invite individuals, groups, clubs, companies and organizations from all walks of life to stand united with the horses and burros by giving them a voice. This is united effort to ban the slaughter of all equines, both domesticated and wild.

We believe that  

•    Horses and burros are not food

•    Horse slaughter is NOT humane and cannot be made humane 

•    Horse slaughter is driven by a perverse market of horsemeat which 

     is riddled with fraud

•    Horse slaughter is a major contributor of toxic substances and waste 

     that contaminates the environment and places human lives at risk  

•    Horse slaughter supports the abuse, neglect, insidious cruelty and 

     abandonment of equines  

•    State & National laws to permanently ban horse slaughter are necessary 

•    State & National laws permanently banning the transport of equines for 

     slaughter are necessary

•    Wild horses and burros belong free on the range  

•    An immediate moratorium on the roundup, removal and culling of wild equines is urgently needed  

•    Horse owners should have the right to humanely euthanize their equine 

•    Equine owners and breeders must take responsibility for the life of each equine in their charge

•    Horses & burros may become homeless, but No horse or burro is “unwanted”   

Our mission to see that horse slaughter is a thing of the past.

The film brings to screen facts about the imminent and urgent health risks to humans and the environmental impact caused by the capture, removal, transport, and stockpiling of both wild and domestic horses designated for the human food chain. The film exposes how certain government agencies and special interests groups run over existing laws that are meant to protect the horses, people and the environment.

The Coalition officially launched its “STAND WITH US” campaign in 2010, which was announced together with news of the Worldwide Premiere of the powerful documentary film, SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES A NATION BETRAYED at the Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival, where the film won Best Documentary Feature Film at its first Festival screening. The acclaimed film toured the festival circuit, winning multiple International Awards, including Best Environmental Film in Canada and many more.
