Saving America's Horses
July 25, 2017
Studio City, CA
The Wild For Life Foundation and Saving America's Horses today announced the release of two new powerful tools for the protection of equines from cruelty in the U.S. " 8 Quick Need-to-Know Facts to Help Protect Horses and Burros from Slaughter" and "10 Need-to-Know Facts that can Raise Needed Protection for Wild Horses and Burros", both reports provide dynamic talking points that directly counter the onslaught of misinformation triggered by the Department of Interior's misguided proposal to kill America's wild horses and burros and enable the sale of these historic treasured animals by the BLM for slaughter," says Katia Louise, Founder and President Wild for Life Foundation.
Jay Coskie, WFLF co-founder and Vice President observed, "The WFLF fact sheets should be compassionately utilized and distributed as powerful reference tools amongst community members and their local representatives. Our opponents have waged an insidious, well-funded disinformation campaign to support the extermination of America's treasured wild horses and burros. Even the House was duped. Through its film, research and multimedia educational program, WFLF
brings home horses and burros are in fact native species to North America and who evolved on this continent." The mislabeling and eradication of wild horses and burros on America’s public rangelands is a clear demonstration of ‘special interests’ and ‘government agency’ support for the competing economic value of commercial livestock and reveals certain agency defiance of their mandate to protect wild horses and burros, a native wild species known to have no economic value," added Katia Louise, WFLF founder and President. "The fact sheets bring home that horse slaughter is a cruel, inhumane practice that leaves communities devastated with toxic environmental contamination, and economic losses."
Katia is also the Director, Producer of the award winning film, SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES,
an intelligent and hard hitting expose` that reveals how government agencies and special interests run over the laws that are supposed to protect the horses, the people and the environment.
The documented evidence of cruelty, egregious violations of the law and a lack of enforcement by the USDA led to the closure of horse slaughter houses in 2007, but in the absence of federal ban on horse slaughter, U.S. horses continue to be shipped across the borders where they are inhumanely slaughtered to this very day. Now, the BLM is pushing for the government's permission to sell America's treasured wild horses and burros for slaughter. “
The vast challenges facing America’s wild and domestic equines and their natural habitats are immense. However, armed with compassion and the true facts, and through joining together to make a compelling and united voice heard for the horses and burros, we can educate and effect positive change. By raising awareness and educating the public about the importance of protecting these animals, we can make a win for the horses. Check out the below facts sheets and visit our website to learn more.

Senate Appropriations Committee passes the Udall-Graham Amendment
Thursday, July 20, 2017 – The Senate Appropriations Committee approves the defunding language which prohibits U.S. Department of Agriculture from hiring horse meat inspectors which in turn prevents horse slaughter plants from being re-opened in the U.S. in the coming year.
WFLF and Saving America’s Horses applauds the Senate leadership and Appropriations Committee for their continued ‘defunding’ support and is especially grateful to Sen. Tom Udall and the co-sponsors of the amendment which prevents horses slaughter, Sens. Lindsey Graham, Dianne Feinstein, Jack Reed, Christopher Coons, Susan Collins and Jeanne Shaheen. The Udall-Graham Amendment, introduced by Sens. Tom Udall (D-NM) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), was passed in the full committee by a bipartisan vote and will effectively continue a ban on the gruesome horse slaughter industry on U.S. soil.
Protection is however still needed for America's horses from the exportation across federal borders where they continue to face gruesome slaughter every day. And the Senate has yet to vote on the BLM/ DOI appropriations proposal regarding the killing and sale of Mustangs and burros - which will take place toward the end of summer.
You can make a difference by raising awareness and compassion about why wild and domestic horses and burros need protection and the reasons are many.
Let us be compassionate in our quest to seek compassion from others, especially those who lead our country - our nation of horses and burros are counting on us. They need us more than ever - we are their voice, and they must be heard.

America's Horses - Their Future is Our Future
WASHINGTON, DC. , July 13, 2017 - The House Appropriations Committee voted today in support of Budget proposals which would effectively strip protection for horses and burros from slaughter.
“HOWEVER, the fight to SAVE America’s Horses is far from over,” states the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF). Voting on the 2018 Budget proposals will move from the House to the Senate.
“The Senate Leadership has a history of opposing horse slaughter and it’s crucial for the safety and welfare of America’s horses and burros for the Senate to continue upholding their positive support,” added WFLF.
“It’s vital for the people and groups who sincerely care about these animals to demonstrate a strong showing of positive support for the Senate’s long history in opposition of slaughter,” says Saving America’s Horses and WFLF.”
We are a Nation of animal loving people. Every day, through raising awareness and humane education more and more people take an active stand in support the prevention of animal cruelty in America. Compassionate education is key to protecting America’s equines from slaughter.
Despite pro-slaughter propaganda which serves to mislead the public and dismantle needed protection for these animals, results from a 2015 American Horse Publications (AHA) Survey indeed reflect complex relationships between humans and horses, where 67.4% view their horses as family members, and 62.7% view them as companion animals, 57.6% regard them as performance partners, and 55.9% regard them as their best friends. In fact the same survey shows that horse ownership and involvement has stabilized since the recession and is likely to rise. The AHA survey also reveals that a much smaller percentage of horse owners view their horses as an investment, livestock animal or employee.
“The positive growth in meaningful relationships between people and animals in America signals is a huge positive in the movement for protection and preservation of America’s horses,” states Jay Coskie, vice president WFLF. “It’s up to us, to make a win for America’s horses through continued positive change for good,” added Katia Louise, director Saving America’s Horses.
“WFLF and Saving America’s Horses is strongly opposed to the killing of wild horses and burros,”
added Jeanne Sullivan, WFLF BOD. “We are also adamantly against the removal of the protective language which currently restricts the sale of wild horses and burros by the BLM for slaughter.”
“By raising awareness and educating the public about the importance of keeping these protections in place, we can win for the horses,” added Ms Louise. “America’s wild horses and burros need support now more than ever. Together, we are their voice and they need to be heard.”

Wild Horse and Burro Alert
JULY 7, 2017, Los Angeles, CA - WILD HORSE AND BURRO ALERT!
45,000+ Wild Horses and Burros Lives at Stake
BLM 2018 PROPOSED BUDGET CALLS FOR PROVISIONS THAT WOULD ALLOW THE
BLM TO SHOOT & KILL WILD HORSES AND BURROS AND ALSO ALLOW THEM TO SELL WILD HORSES AND BURROS FOR SLAUGHTER
The Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF) and SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES strongly opposes any budget provision that would allow the killing of wild horses and burros, and opposes the removal of the protective language which currently restricts the sale of wild horses and burros by the BLM for slaughter.
BUDGET JUSTIFICATIONS by The United States, Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) call for approval of proposed provisions that if passed would allow the BLM to exterminate America's wild horses and burros and allow the BLM to sell wild horses and burros for slaughter.
TAKE ACTION:
STAND WITH US TO RAISE AWARENESS. HELP MAKE A WIN FOR THE HORSES & STOP THE KILLING, THE ROUNDUPS AND THE SLAUGHTER
BACKGROUND:
In September of 2016, when public outcry against the recommended killing of 45,000 wild American horses and burros reached mainstream level it caught the attention of some of the most powerful mainstream media outlets. The combination of these factors brought increased exposure to the systemic mistreatment and reckless mismanagement of the wild horses and our public lands. This in turn caused a detrimental backlash of criticism against the government and the BLM.
A flurry of subsequent news reports based on statements by BLM spokespersons then headlined a false positive result for America’s horses which effectively left the public in the dark. For example, reportedly, “BLM spokesperson, Tom Gorey, said that the agency will continue its current policy of caring for unadopted or unsold wild horses and burros and will not sell or send any animals to slaughter."
WFLF Saving America's Horses' educational alerts inform the public about the facts. As revealed in the SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES documentary film, the BLM has been and continues to be a very powerful proponent of slaughter.
We applaud the many U.S. Representatives in the Senate and the House who continue to support the needed protections for America’s wild horse and burro population. We especially give thanks to Lisa Murkowski, Tom Udall and Dianne Feinstein for their hard work and support in protecting America’s horses from slaughter.
WFLF has produced a series of EDUCATIONAL ALERTS with FACTS THAT REFUTE BLM's MYTHS. We urge the public not to be duped by the clever and misleading BLM propaganda. Selling the animals ‘without limitation’ or under sale authority effectively strips their protection from abuse and slaughter.
Horses and burros are living symbols of the historic spirit of the West. They contribute to the diversity of life forms within the Nation and enrich the lives of the American people. However they are sadly disappearing from the American scene and must be protected.
In May of 2017 the BLM released their 2018 Budget proposing provisions that would strip protections and effectively allow the BLM to shoot & kill wild horses and burros and sell wild horses and burros for slaughter. But by raising awareness and educating the public about the importance of keeping these protections in place, we can win for the horses. America's wild horses and burros need support now more than ever. Together, we are their voice and they need to be heard.
